Arsenal have already started its transfer activities after the confirmed departures of some first team players.
However, Arsenal‘s NO.1 Bernd Leno although impressive this season, have decided to leave the Emirates during the summer transfer window according to reports.
Mikel Arteta chose the Germany International over Martinez as his first choice goalkeeper but if the rumors of Leno’s exit are true, then the Spaniard would have to look for a replacement.
The Gunners have eyed Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as a possible replacement and according to latest reports, Arsenal are in pole position to land the player.
Andre Onana has showed his skills and talents at Ajax and even previously at Barcelona, he has sharp reflexes and would definitely be an upgrade on Bernd Leno if he’s on top form.
But there is a huge problem the Gunners need to deal with before completing his transfer as Onana was charged with using illegal performance stimulants and as it stands, he won’t be available until February 2022.
Obviously, the doping violation ban will be a concern for the Gunners but it is currently being appealed and should that appeal be accepted, the Gunners would sign the Player for €9M.
However, if the reverse is the case, the Gunners will pay €2M for his signature but won’t enjoy his services till February 2022. Either way, this is an interesting situation to watch for Arsenal.
