Everything You Need To Know About The 2022 Balon D’or Awards And Winner Is Contained In This Article.

It’s yet another time of the season where France Football rewards the most prestigious individual football award to the best players with the Ballon d’Or, the Ballon d’Or Feminin, the Kopa Trophy, the Yashin Trophy, and so on.

Not like the usual Balon D’or we know in recent years that Messi and Ronaldo dominate, this year’s Balon D’or is a total different one as the said two greatest players of all time were missing from top 19.

For the first time since 2005, neither Ronaldo nor Messi made it to the grand finale (top 10) of the award ceremony. Messi was totally missing from 30 man shortlist while Ronaldo was ranked 20th.

France Football received a lot of criticism from the previous campaign and For all the controversy and criticism it generated, it announced in March that the rules for Ballon d’Or voting have changed, with the key one being that the award will be based on performances over a single season, rather than a calendar year.

The importance placed on trophies (aka ‘Jorginho’s Law’) has also been scaled back, meaning the prize should reflect the best footballers from each season, rather than those who lift the most silverware.

Karim Benzema seemed to be the player most favoured by the new rules of the Balon D’or as the Frenchman heartily clinched the award after impressive 2021/22 season. Mane, Kevin de Bruyne, Lewandowski, Salah and so on were all in the runner ups.

Alexia Putellas of Barcelona, despite missing out on Euro 2022 due to injury, still won the Balon D’or Femini for the second time in a row over England and Arsenal’s Beth Mead, Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Barcelona’s Oshoala, amongst others.
