Chelsea News As Tuchel Holds Pre-Tottenham Match Press Conference

Thomas Tuchel will be leading his side up against Antonio Conte’s Spurs team and here are all the things the German tactician has to say ahead of the London Derby

Somtosport brings you the latest Chelsea press conference coverage as the Blues prepare to battle Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The West Londoners managed a 1-0 victory against Everton last weekend while Spurs produced a stunning 4-1 victory against Southampton which saw them start the season at the top of the Premier League table.

Tuchel will be hoping to cut short this early lead by Spurs with a victory or draw against them on Sunday but sure won’t be an easy task.

With Malang Sarr now joined Monaco on loan and Timo Werner permanently returning to Leipzig after Chelsea sold him for €20m, Tuchel will continue with similar line up he used last game as neither of the two men came on against Everton.

Below are all the things Tuchel had to say concerning questions thrown at him by reporters today.

What is the latest on Fofana?

Tuchel: I will not comment. No matter how good your question will be, I will not comment.

Do you need another defender?

Tuchel: We could use one more central defender if you look at the numbers and that we play with a back three.

What about another forward?

Tuchel: We could strengthen our squad in depth. It’s one thing that you wish for and it’s another that is possible. We are looking for top quality and top personalities.

Did you enjoy working with Aubameyang?

Tuchel: It was a pleasure. Some players stay your players because you were very close and Auba is one of these players. Even when we played against him with Arsenal, straight away there was this close bond.

Conte said there was a big gap between Spurs and Chelsea last season?

Tuchel: I never felt a huge gap in preparing these matches. They are a competitive and talented squad. I know very well what we invested and the level we played to beat them four times and not concede a goal.

I don’t believe everything Antonio Conte says before and after games. I admire him a lot and I believe every team he trains competes for everything. This is what he proves right now.

Does Aubameyang get bad press here?

Tuchel: I don’t follow the press. To be offended, I don’t follow the press so much. I don’t know if he has a good or bad press. It’s not important.

How do you handle playing in these heat?

Tuchel: It’s quite demanding. It was quite demanding today. There was a huge difference today and yesterday and it will increase.

Tomorrow, we adapted our training session times to early mornings. In a stadium, it can feel even worse. So Sunday at 4.30pm will be quite challenging.

Hopefully, there will be a pause for drinking. We have some patterns implemented already to cool the body temperature down and improve the situation as much as possible. But it will be draining.

Secret to keeping Kane and Son quiet?

Tuchel: I will not tell you. They have a pattern in their offensive pressing and how they defend.

It’s important we are good on the ball, the dominant team, and hopefully put the game into the opponents’ half. We then have to control the counter attack.

They are maybe one of the best teams in the world on counter attack. We did a fantastic job last season of closing it down.

Confident you’ll get the players you need?

Tuchel: We will not panic and we will not try to sign players we are not 100% convinced. All signings so far are fantastic signings and will help us.

Miss Cech’s influence?

Tuchel: We miss him a lot. I saw him in the last days and he knows from me directly that we miss him a lot.

He was a person who lived the values of what it takes to be a top competitor of Chelsea day by day.

Where will you use Sterling?

Tuchel: I think he should play in the last line or between the defensive line to drive toward the last line or run through the last line.

Is Marcos Alonso available to feature?

Tuchel: Marcos Alonso is not in training at the moment as he tries to finalise his move, so he won’t be in contention for Sunday.

Selecting a squad with the heat in mind?

Tuchel: It is demanding, it is more demanding. The data in different conditions has a different output.

Maybe it is a matter of how you want it and accept it, because at times it will be difficult and draining. It’s a question of who has the will and ability to play through the pain. I’m not there yet if it influences my starting XI.
