Edouard Mendy Shares Emotional Story Of His Career Journey So Far

The Senegalese has gone from unemployed to Chelsea’s number one keeper in a very short time

Mendy arrived Chelsea from Rennes and has since then managed to grab the number on spot with super keeping skills.

Having recorded several clean sheets since his arrival, Mendy has become the better pick compared to the most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The 29-year-old took the time to share little story about his journey so far as he could be crowned UCL champion on the 29th of May.

“When I look back on my career path, ‘from the first moment I signed my first pro contract or when I was unemployed for a while, if anyone would’ve said to me that a few years down the line, I was going to be playing in a UCLfinal, I wouldn’t have believed them,” Mendy said.

“I wouldn’t have listened to them. I feel lucky now to be at a really positive point in my career and playing for a club where I have the opportunity to win trophies but what has happened is about more than luck.

“I have worked really, really hard throughout that period to have achieved what I have achieved so far to make that career jump.

“This final is the reward for that hard work,” he added.

Mendy was dropped during the two games Chelsea suffered back to back defeats to Arsenal and Leicester City respectively but regained his spot as Chelsea bounced back with a revenging victory against Leicester City.

Blues will solidify their top four finish today if they manage to record victory against Dean Smith’s men at the Villa park.
