Speaking after the game after being Mohamed Salah’s nightmare, Courtois said; “Today I needed to win a final for my career, for all the hard work, to put some respect on my name, because I don’t think I get enough respect. Especially in England.

“Back in England, I don’t get enough respect… so, well, I showed it today. I wanted to put some respect on my name there.

“There was a magazine in England that didn’t put me in the top 10 goalkeepers in the world. Maybe some of it was how I left Chelsea.

“I needed to win a final for my career, to put some respect on my  name. I’m really happy and proud of the performance of the team.

“We’ve beaten the best clubs in the world. City and Liverpool were unbelievable this season, Liverpool played a great game but we had one chance and we scored it.”
