The German has always been the reaper of Klopp’s 7-year curse as the opportunity calls again.
Compared to his immediate past seasons, It has not been a joy ride for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool since the beginning of this season as the German has recently been an object of questions and doubts.
Liverpool has been through what can be called roller coaster since the beginning of 2022/23 season and such has raised a lot of questions and doubts for the reds legendary manager who is currently on his seventh season.
Having been on the cusp of winning the quadruple last season, with a Champions league final, it seems they are currently walking alone since they began their season with a clumsy 2:2 draw against newly promoted Fulham.
Their Premier league campaign since then haven’t quite been as expected as they are currently sitted at 7th position after 11 games with only 16 points, 11 points off the league leaders and 7 points off top 4.
Just four victories, four draws and three losses into their Premier league season. The story is although better in their UCL campaign as they have won 3 games out of four and sitting second with 9 points in Group A.
However, the concern has been if Klopp has once again hit his 7th season curse. It is a period in his managerial career where he is forced to resign on the 7th season which is always like him chasing a shadow of himself.
In his first ever managerial role at German side Mainz, Klopp was a hit as he secured promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history. However, three years after that historic moment, in what was Klopp’s seventh season, Mainz got relegated and Tuchel replaced him there.
After Mainz, Klopp went to Borussia Dortmund, where he truly made his name. He took his side to a Champions League final and won back to back Bundesliga titles. Again, in his seventh season at the Signal Iduna Park things turned sour. Dortmund lost star striker Robert Lewandowski and ended up finishing seventh in the league. A disastrous season that led to Klopp’s departure.
During the end of Klopp’s era at Borussia Dortmund in 2014/15, he had one of the worst season as the driver; he lost both home and away games to Bayern Munich and won just one against Bundesliga top 3 in 6 meetings. Then he had his country man, Tuchel, replaced him again.
Klopp is now in the seventh season and things have started badly. He acknowledged the need to make changes last month. He said to The Anfield Wrap: “We are now already a while together, it’s my seventh season and that is really strange, but we cannot just keep things like they are. So we cannot just say ‘ah it’s great’ with the same team and getting older. You have to make changes, we do. We do, constantly.”
Could this season be the end of Jurgen Klopp‘s era at Liverpool FC –seventh season? It could really be, after losing Mane just like he lost Lewandowski in 2015.
Now let us recall that it’s barely two months after Tuchel was fired as the Chelsea boss and so remains the favorite and in place to do his job, which is replacing his country man, Klopp.
Somtosport understands that there has been rumors at the back office on the chances of Tuchel taking over Klopp’s position, which is always what Tuchel is destined for.
Having replaced Klopp in Mainz after his seventh season, went on to replace him in Dortmund still after his seventh season, the German is now in line to replace his compatriot once again.
According to talks from the Board Room, Liverpool may already be considering replacing Jurgen Klopp as it appears unlikely he can turn the results around.
The Board although haven’t decided on this yet, but we believe they already marked out Thomas Tuchel as a next option incase of a worst case scenario.
Klopp could start to feel heat from the top if he doesn’t change the team results real quick, expectations are now Klopp is actually nearing his last days at the club if Liverpool stays out of top 4 zone for a longer time.
Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard is also an option for this position.
