Graham Potter Discloses Chelsea First Choice Keeper Between Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arizzabalaga

The new boss is keen on finding the perfect starting line up and the Goalie spot won’t be an exception

Chelsea prepare to face AC Milan on Wednesday and having used Kepa Arizzabalaga in-between the sticks against Crystal Palace, Graham Potter is likely to switch to Edouard Mendy tomorrow night.

Although not a clean sheet day for Kepa but the Spaniard was exceptional with some of the goal denying saves that could have seen Chelsea lose their lead against the Eagles.

Following his arrival, Graham Potter is aware of the setting prior his announcement, having Edouard Mendy starting ahead of Kepa who is currently holding the number 1 jersey.

Potter has shared that he will hand similar opportunity to both Keepers and whoever that impresses more in the trainings would be starting the next game ahead of the other.

Last weekend’s Edouard Mendy absence was actually due to an injury and having recovered, the Goalie is set to be in between the sticks when Blues lock horns with AC Milan.

Speaking ahead of the game, Potter was quizzed on who he views as his number one option. “We have two good keepers who can be used in any game and am well aware of that,” Potter said.

“I have watched them closely in our training sessions and I can tell you that they are both good, but who starts all depends on their current fitness state.

“If you look at what we have over the next six weeks, it’s an incredible schedule. I’m in no rush to label anyone no.1 or no.2.

“I want to help Kepa to enjoy football, and help Eddie get fit and ready to play. In an ideal world, you let football decide.

“Last weekend, Mendy wasn’t fit due to his injury so we had Kepa out there doing great work so this week, Mendy is ready and if his fitness remains unchanged then he would be in the squad against AC Milan.

“The Champions League is important to us and looking at this great club and what they have achieved, we want to be part of the great history that is why we are picking the most fit of all our options in every position.”

Chelsea lost their first Champions League game and drew the second but they will do well to avoid a defeat against AC Milan on Wednesday with the Italians looking so much in form since the start of the new season.
