Thomas Tuchel made a huge decision to leave out Kai Havertz and Timo Werner who both were reportedly feeling unwell prior the game.
Malang Sarr was named in the substitution but wasn’t called up with Loftus-Cheek coming off just minutes after he was subbed in due to lack of commitment in the game.
Ross Barkley got a chance to help the team and he banged home his own penalty kick with Mason Mount, Azpilicueta and Sadio Mane being the only players to miss their own kicks.
One player who was neither seen on the cameras nor on the pitch is Andrea Christensen.
It’s disclosed that the Dane did actually request to be removed from the squad after being named on the starting eleven by Tuchel.
Somtosport understands that the defender didn’t expect he would be named to start against Liverpool.
Shocking the call came and he personally demanded to be taken off and then left the hotel afterwards before the team.
One of Chelsea players, Reece James has in a recent interview shared his thoughts on the incident as he reflects on the Chelsea loss.
“It’s a very painful loss for us,” James said. “We gave everything to make sure we won but it didn’t turn out that way.
Asked about Christensen pulling out, “I must say, I am surprised he did that. Everyone wanted to be in the squad, but Andrea said ‘nope, am sick’ but I hope he is fine now.
“It’s a very rough season for us and we must just finish the remaining little job left to do.”
