Panic for Blues as Edouard Mendy makes untimely return from International duty

Mendy could be a doubt for Southampton clash as he returned before time from International duty.

The former Rennes Goalkeeper who joined the Blues on 12th September could be sidelined after his clean sheet game against Crystal Palace.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is likely to lose out his place in the club as the number one goalkeeper to the former Reims man who already is impressing.

Having suffered a knock while training with his National side, Mendy was seen to have returned back to Chelsea before the expected time.

The Blues medical team are yet to run checkups on him to determine how severe his knock was.

Below is an official statement from the Senegal National Team.

“The Senegalese Football Federation announces the goalkeeper of the National Selection Edouard Mendy sustained an injury to the right thigh that occurred during the training session on Wednesday, October 07, 2020 and has undergone a medical examination at the hospital in Rabat.

“Edouard Mendy has also left the group this afternoon to return to his Club (Chelsea) where he will undergo further examinations.

“The Senegalese Football Federation wishes him a speedy recovery.

“He will be replaced by the young goalkeeper of the U20 national team, Boubacar Fall, who was regrouping in Toubab Dialao and who moved to Rabat in the early evening.”
