Man United assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag, has been considered a top candidate for managerial role by Ajax, following the sacking of head coach.

It has been an unimpressive run for Ajax since the start of the season, with Maurice Steijn and his boys sitting in the 17th position of the Eredivisie table after game week 9.

Ajax poor start into the season see then win 1 game, drawing 2 while having lost 4 in their first 7 league games.

The 4:3 away loss to FC Utrecht saw the club owners run out of patience with head coach Maurice, this led to club and manager parting ways in a mutual consent.

Former Ajax boss, LVG whom at the time plays an advisory role to the club, has identified Erik ten Hag’ assistant, to be the perfect man for the job.

Mitchell van de Gaag has committed his loyalty to Manchester United, as he is happy working alongside ETH, and is not willing to accept the offer from Ajax.

It is a big blow for AFC Ajax, the Dutch giants have only turned to Hedwiges Maduro, assistant to former boss to take temporary charge of the team, while talks are ongoing with John van t’ Schip to manage the team for the rest of the season.
