Thomas Tuchel Hints On New Chelsea Captain Ahead Of 2022/2023 Season

Tuchel will look on appointing another member of the squad as the new Chelsea captain ahead of the new season with Cesar Azpilicueta set for departure

A new Chelsea captain for the 2022/2023 season will be appointed by the manager should the exit deal for Azpilicueta go through.

Blues current captain, Cesar Azpilicueta is very likely to leave this summer after strong interest from Barcelona.

The only thing holding back his departure is only the financial issues at Barcelona.

Thomas Tuchel is in the right position to appoint a replacement for the soon-to-be vacant Captaincy position and the German already has plans of doing so.

Following his recent interview, Tuchel hinted on a possible replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta.

Jorginho has remained the vice-captain and remaining at Chelsea is also a doubt for the Italian who has attracted interest from Juventus.

But unlike Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea aren’t interested in selling Jorginho and an exit appears very much unlikely unless there is a change of mind.

Speaking to in an interview, Tuchel stated; “Yes, we are aware of the interests from Barcelona for Azpili and we are working to see the best that can be done.

“We will definitely respect the player’s decision and also do what’s best for the club. He has been a very important member of the squad and also the captain.

“If he happens to leave, we have a vice of course, Jorginho. He is doing very good for his country and we hope he will continue when he return.

“We are very careful with injuries because we don’t want any. We want the players to come back in full fitness. The new season will need every one with full strength.”

Chelsea are close to signing Jules Koundé and Ousmane Dembele after closing in on both stars.
