The German tactician is keen to achieve greater heights at Chelsea and has resorted to adopting Pep Guardiola’s squad building method
Chelsea rebuilding their squad is considered a top-notch priority by the ranks at the club, most especially Thomas Tuchel who saw his side end the 2021/2022 Premier League season disappointed.
Letting players leave at this moment must be after a serious and rigorous consideration with Blues determined to match the competition from both Liverpool and Manchester City come next season.
The West Londoners managed to patch their squad and finished third place last season with a heavy fight that involved luck playing significant roles in many cases.
Thomas Tuchel is one manager who doesn’t like the luck game and as such has decided on building the Chelsea squad strong to his full taste.
Blues have been linked to several names in the recent past, including PSG attacker, Neymar of which no matter how untrue the story can be, it’s still not impossible for Chelsea to pull of a marque signing if Tuchel sanctions it.
Thanks to the new era, spear headed by an ambitious American who isn’t new to the world of sports investment as he done so well with American Baseball team, LA Dodgers.
Todd Boehly has overtime resounded his eagerness to make Chelsea a major competitor of the Premier League and the Champions League and having Tuchel on the project comes as a blessing to the new owner.
Not actually Chelsea aren’t worthy competitor in the different involved leagues but it’s been proven severally in the past that their squad usually worn-out mid-season.
A typical example is the just concluded season where Tuchel powered up his perfect squad at the start of the season. A squad that caused havoc to opponents with their strange tactics that warranted defenders scoring more than the attackers.
Everything was going fine until halfway into the season, Ben Chilwell and Reece James got injured in November, 2021. The team collapsed, results were shambles and every Chelsea had only luck to look up to.
Chelsea slipped from the top of the table to the 3rd place and kudos to a professional job from Tuchel to maintain the position until the end of the season, helping them to another UEFA Champions League qualification after their slack caused them a Quarter Finals eviction against a Real Madrid side they already buried.
This clearly is one thing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City don’t suffer. The team don’t wear-off mid-season with or without injuries. Why? Because Pep has a large squad of hungry warriors who has proven to be top class.
Large squad is the key to Chelsea competing Guardiola’s Manchester City and Liverpool. Tuchel has realized this and will be going into the transfer market this summer with this plan well mapped out.

Chelsea were on the former Inter Milan man’s radar before he picked a move to PSG instead of a Premier League trip.
Tuchel believes they can still convince Hakimi to come to London but definitely at a price as PSG tied him down to a long contract expiring 2026.
Blues will have to pay around €60m to have Hakimi who has luckily for the West Londoners fallen out of place with the Parisian team.
According to a French Journalist, Daniel Riolo; “Hakimi is going crazy, the South Americans don’t talk to him anymore. He already wants to leave Paris (PSG), he is fed up. In this team, his qualities have never exploded, so maybe you have to give him up.”
Chelsea have an advantage if they push strongly for a deal at this moment for the Moroccan and a good relationship with Hakim Ziyech could also play a key role for the Blues.
The Right-back is a better option to provide the back up for Reece James with Cesar Azpilicueta on the verge of leaving the club to Barcelona.
Tuchel has always wanted Hakimi and still wants him with the 23-year-old being on the score sheets 4 times across the 41 times he featured for the Ligue 1 Champions.
Lautaro Martinez / Paulo Dybala
Chelsea’s attacking line has been the best it can be and adding Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez or Juventus’ Dybala to the squad is an idea Tuchel is currently considering.
The German knows more competition in the front will only explode everyone’s abilities cause they all want to play.
Martinez is one player that will attract many interests to himself after disclosing plans to leave the Nerazzurri’s this summer likewise Dybala who was shedding tears after his last game for Juventus.
Both players are set to move on from the Serie A and Tuchel has already drawn them up on his transfer plan.
Martinez is 24 and Dybala is 28. Both are fitting to the Chelsea requirement system.
The Italian will return from loan this summer for the Chelsea pre-season and surely there is no way Tuchel is letting him leave again.
Emerson is more of a defensive minded Left-back than Marcos Alonso. Just like Benjamin Chilwell.
When injury stroke Stamford Bridge, Chelsea tried recalling Emerson but it was a NO! from Lyon.
Tuchel will keep Emerson at the squad with Alonso also leaving to Barcelona after disclosing his plans to return to the Spanish La Liga.
Compiled above are the positions Somtosport believes Tuchel will focus on strengthening; front line and the two wing-backs.
