“The news is not good, not at all. We expect these players to be back fit but sometimes you just have to deal with this type of situations,” Xavi said.

“The reports I received so far suggests we most likely won’t be having Gavi on the pitch for the rest of the season.

“He is a good kid that wants to play and is dedicated to working hard but sometimes injury come when we least expect, we just have to handle it but it’s sure a big blow for us and for Gavi too.

“We just have to focus on working with the rest of the boys in the squad and hope not to get another player injury report (laughs).”

Barcelona will lock horns with Rayo Vallecano in a major test when the Laliga resumes this weekend. It’s a major test because Barcelona are yet to win against Vallecano since 2021 while losing 3 times to the side.

The Catalans are hoping for a top place climb as they currently sit 4 points behind the top spot and winning against a side that has in the past seasons cost them points would be massive to their morale boost.
