Cristian Romero Joins Atlético Madrid in €40m Deal From Tottenham

Cristian Romero is set to join Atlético Madrid, with a “Here We Go” agreement now in place between the Spanish club and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the latest transfer update, Atlético have reached an agreement with Tottenham for the Argentine defender in a package worth €40 million, including add-ons.

Romero’s future had been the subject of significant speculation throughout the summer. A potential move to Inter Milan collapsed in July, while Barcelona also decided against pursuing a deal for the centre-back in recent days.

Tottenham were likewise never prepared to entertain a transfer to Premier League rivals Arsenal, leaving Atlético Madrid as the club that ultimately won the race for his signature.

The move represents a major defensive addition for Diego Simeone’s side, with Romero’s aggressive defending, leadership and experience expected to strengthen Atlético’s back line.

For Tottenham, meanwhile, the agreement brings an end to Romero’s spell in North London and provides the club with a significant transfer fee to reinvest in the squad.
