Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026-27 season could be his final campaign as a professional footballer, bringing his extraordinary playing career closer to its end.

The 41-year-old Al-Nassr and Portugal captain made the revelation in a new interview with Vogue, where he spoke openly about life after football.

Ronaldo said it is “likely that this will be my final year in football”, while also making it clear that he wants to leave behind a lasting legacy.

The Portuguese superstar has spent more than two decades playing at the highest level, representing Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr.

He has won five Ballon d'Or awards, five Champions League titles and major international trophies with Portugal, including Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo's decision would mark the end of one of the longest and most successful careers in modern football.

However, there is still one major target on his mind.

He is approaching 1,000 career goals, having scored 976 for club and country according to Reuters. Ronaldo intends to continue playing for Al-Nassr during the upcoming season as he pursues that remarkable milestone.

His international career has already entered its final chapter. Ronaldo confirmed before Portugal's 2026 World Cup knockout match against Spain that the tournament would be his last World Cup.

Now, it appears his club career could have just one season remaining.

Ronaldo also revealed that he already has plans for life after football, including spending more time with his family, travelling and enjoying hobbies such as padel.

After more than 20 years at the top, the end of the Cristiano Ronaldo era may finally be approaching.

One last season. One last chase for 1,000 goals. One final chapter. 🇵🇹❤️‍🩹
