Dani Carvajal is closing in on a surprise move to Getafe after reaching a verbal agreement with the LaLiga club, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The former Real Madrid defender has already completed his medical, but Getafe cannot officially announce or register him until the club receives approval from LaLiga over its financial-control limits.

Getafe president Ángel Torres also confirmed that the 34-year-old has passed his medical and that an agreement has been reached between the two parties.

“Carvajal has passed the medical. Now it is just a matter of reaching an agreement with LaLiga,” Torres said in comments reported by AS.

Carvajal became a free agent after ending his 23-year association with Real Madrid. The Spanish defender made 450 appearances for the club's first team and won 27 trophies, including six Champions League titles, before leaving at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The move would keep Carvajal in Madrid and give José Bordalás an experienced option at right-back. Reports from Spain say the Getafe coach played an important role in convincing the former Real Madrid captain to accept the move.

Carvajal's arrival would also be an unexpected continuation of his career in LaLiga after he had been linked with opportunities outside Spain during his time as a free agent.

However, the deal still has one important step to clear. Getafe must find a way to fit the defender's contract into their available financial limits before LaLiga can approve his registration.

If that approval arrives, Carvajal will begin a new chapter with Getafe after more than a decade at Real Madrid.
