Mourinho Explains Why Bernardo Is So Important
José Mourinho has praised Bernardo Silva's versatility and explained why the Portuguese midfielder is vital to Real Madrid's short squad.

José Mourinho has explained why Bernardo Silva's versatility is particularly valuable to Real Madrid as he deals with a small squad affected by injuries.
Mourinho praised the Portuguese midfielder's ability to operate in several positions, saying that quality is extremely useful for any manager.
“Bernardo is the type of player who can play in three or four positions, and that's excellent for any coach,” Mourinho said.

The Real Madrid manager also pointed to the club's current squad situation.
“Especially since we have a short squad of just 20 players, due to injuries,” he added.
Mourinho therefore believes players who can perform different roles are especially important.
“And in a short squad, we need players who can do what Bernardo does.”
Bernardo joined Real Madrid this summer after leaving Manchester City, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Mourinho personally wanted the midfielder and that the deal was completed on a two-year contract with an option for another season.
The move reunited Mourinho with a player whose tactical flexibility fits the Portuguese manager's preference for experienced and adaptable footballers.

Bernardo can operate in midfield or wider attacking positions, giving Mourinho another option when injuries or tactical decisions force changes.
That versatility could become even more important once Real Madrid's competitive schedule begins.
Mourinho has already made it clear that he values players who can solve several problems at once.
For Bernardo, that could mean playing different roles depending on the opponent and the match situation.
It also explains why Mourinho was so keen to bring him to Madrid.

Is Bernardo Silva exactly the type of versatile player Mourinho needs at Real Madrid?
