Vinícius recently ended months of uncertainty over his future by extending his Real Madrid contract until 2032, despite reported interest from Arsenal. The renewal has provided Mourinho with an important boost as he begins his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.

Speaking after Real Madrid’s 2-1 pre-season victory over Ferencváros, Mourinho made it clear that the contract extension mattered more to him than Vinícius’ immediate performance on the pitch.

“The most important thing is the renewal. Renewing the contract is a source of happiness for him, of course, but it’s also a source of happiness for all of us.”

The Portuguese coach also urged patience with Vinícius after the Brazilian made his first pre-season appearance following his return from the 2026 World Cup.

“Vini has done very few training sessions. I wasn’t expecting him to take the ball and run 50 meters with it and score a goal today; his legs are still tired and fatigued.”

Mourinho remains confident that the winger will quickly regain his best physical condition, adding that he expects to see significant improvement in the coming matches.

The renewal is particularly important for Mourinho, who sees Vinícius as a central figure in his plans at the Bernabéu. The Brazilian has also spoken positively about working under Mourinho, saying the manager wants him to remain “happy, cheerful and playing my football.”

With his long-term future now secured, Vinícius can focus fully on leading Real Madrid’s attack as Mourinho attempts to build a new era of success at the club.
