The development comes as Barcelona undergo a significant change in their leadership structure. Recent departures had left the Barcelona team in search of a leader ahead of the new campaign.

Raphinha’s rise to the top of the captaincy hierarchy follows the departures of Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo, who previously occupied key positions within the club’s leadership group. Their exits have opened the door for a new generation of Barcelona leaders.

According to recent reports, Raphinha is now ahead of Frenkie de Jong in the race to wear the armband, with Pedri, Gavi and Eric García also expected to play important leadership roles.

The Brazilian has already established himself as one of Hansi Flick’s most trusted players. His commitment, intensity and influence on the pitch have made him an important figure in the dressing room, while his performances have further strengthened his standing within the squad.

Raphinha was previously included in Barcelona’s leadership group under Flick, and his importance to the German coach has continued to grow. His relationship with Flick is also believed to have played a role in his decision to remain at the Catalan club despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, Barcelona have not yet formally confirmed the final captaincy hierarchy. Flick recently indicated that a players’ vote would take place once the squad was finalized, meaning the situation could still change. For now, Raphinha is expected to wear the armband as Barcelona prepare for the new campaign.

If officially confirmed, Raphinha would take on one of the most prestigious leadership roles in world football and become the face of a new era at Camp Nou.
