Reports suggest United are planning talks with Real Madrid over a potential deal, although negotiations are expected to be difficult given Tchouaméni’s importance to the Spanish giants.

The Real Madrid midfielder has emerged as one of United’s priority midfield targets, with the club determined to strengthen the heart of the squad ahead of the new campaign.

To activate such a high-profile transfer, United are expected to show exit door to a number of players who are no longer central to head coach Michael Carrick’s plans.

It is expected that a significant reduction in  wage bill would be of great benefit to the club’s financial flexibility under profitability and sustainability regulations.

Carrick views Tchouaméni as the ideal midfielder to add athleticism, defensive solidity and composure in possession, these are qualities United believe are essential as they rebuild their squad for the 2026-27 season.

However, Real Madrid remain reluctant to part with the French international unless an exceptional offer is made. With Casemiro’ time at the club come to an end, United are optimistic and in the race to attract Aurélien Tchouaméni at any price.

While no agreement has been reached, United’s transfer strategy indicates that player sales will be crucial as they are eager to complete one of the summer’s biggest midfield signings.
