Martínez Dismisses Criticism Ahead Of Portugal Must-Win Uzbekistan Test
Official statement from the Portuguese camp, as released by head coach Roberto Martinez has dismissed rigours on-going in the team’s camp.

Portugal has ignored criticism which came as a result of the 1:1 draw in the opening clash against DR Congo in the World Cup journey. Martinez added that the unity within the team has grown stronger and they are much prepared for the next test against Asian side Uzbekistan.
Joao Neves header in the 6th minute was the only converted attempt from Portugal’s seven shots in the opening game while having quality possession in the game. Yoane Wissa cancelled the lead just before the half time through a header from Arthur Masuaku’ cross.
The head coach said his team started on a great note, but lost composure and discipline in the 20th minutes of the game, and has hinted on the work done to correct what went amiss, going into the game against Uzbekistan.
Martinez hinted on strength and unity, as the key word for the team, while dismissing tension. "And our group is even more united than before. It is a process. Tension is not part of our team. It’s normal to have criticism after a poor result. Sometimes it's unfair or negative but it is not part of how we prepare."
Aside Tomas Araujo, every other player is available for selection in the second game of the tournament, including Manchester City Ruben Dias who sat out for the opener.
Martinez defended his team’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo, the 41 year old’s performance in the opener against DR Congo calls that he starts on the bench on the next game.
In his defence of the skipper, the coach said “He is a player who has been defending and playing for his country for a long time and he wants to keep improving for the team. He is really a role model for the team."
With Columbia occupying the 1st position on the group, haven beaten Uzbekistan 3:1 in the first game. Portugal has all to play for against Uzbekistan in other to match head to head with the South American side in the group K. A win today is all that can keep the dream alive.
