Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer, with negotiations for Sandro Tonali reaching a decisive stage.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Spurs have submitted an improved offer worth slightly over €100 million for the Newcastle United midfielder and are now awaiting the Magpies' final response. The latest proposal is believed to have brought the two clubs closer than ever to reaching a full agreement.

Should Newcastle accept the offer, Tonali would become one of Tottenham's most expensive signings in history and a major statement of intent ahead of the new season.

The Italy international has emerged as Tottenham's priority midfield target as the club looks to strengthen under manager Roberto De Zerbi. Renowned for his vision, composure and defensive intelligence, Tonali is viewed as a player capable of transforming Spurs' midfield for years to come.

Negotiations have accelerated in recent days after Tottenham increased their bid, with the latest offer now exceeding the €100 million mark. While the clubs have yet to finalize an agreement, Di Marzio reports that the transfer has "never been closer" than it is at this moment.

Despite the growing optimism surrounding the deal, Newcastle are still considering the proposal and have not yet given their final approval. Until an agreement is reached and official paperwork is completed, Tonali remains a Newcastle United player.

If the move is completed, it would rank among the standout transfers of the 2026 summer window and underline Tottenham's ambition to challenge for major honours both domestically and in Europe.
