Venezuela is in mourning after a devastating earthquake claimed many lives, injured countless others and left families across the country in deep pain.

The football community has also suffered heartbreaking losses.

Marítimo de La Guaira player Héctor Bello lost his wife in the disaster. According to reports, she gave her life to save their daughter by shielding the child with her own body as their home collapsed.

In an emotional message, Bello said he would one day tell his daughter how her mother sacrificed her own life to save hers. He also spoke of the pain of not being there to protect his family.

Another player, Lucas Trejo, also suffered an unimaginable loss. According to reports, his wife and their two children were found dead after more than 70 hours of search and rescue efforts.

The tragedy also claimed the lives of several young footballers with bright futures.

According to reports, Yimvert Berroterán died alongside his girlfriend. Caracas Under-18 prospect Razan Sijaa also lost his life while spending time with family. Young talent Ricardo Veloz was among the victims, while 14-year-old Víctor Palacios, who dreamed of becoming an international footballer, also sadly passed away.
