13 Years of SIUUUU: The Celebration That Became a Global Phenomenon
Thirteen years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo unknowingly created one of sport’s most iconic celebrations when he first performed his famous SIUUUU against Chelsea in Miami.

August 7, 2013. A date that looked ordinary in football history at the time, but would eventually mark the birth of one of the most recognizable celebrations in world sport.
Cristiano Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid against Chelsea in the International Champions Cup final at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Real Madrid won 3–1, with Ronaldo scoring Real’s third goal with a header.
Then came the moment.
After finding the net, Ronaldo sprinted towards the corner, jumped, turned in the air and landed with his legs spread and arms stretched down by his sides. He shouted his now-famous “SIUUUU!”

It was not a carefully planned celebration. Ronaldo later explained that it simply came naturally after scoring. The Spanish word “sí”, meaning “yes,” gradually evolved into the elongated “Siuuu” that millions of fans now instantly associate with him.
What began as an instinctive reaction in Miami has since become a global signature.
Footballers across generations have copied it, fans perform it in stadiums, and athletes from sports including basketball, American football, tennis, MMA and golf have adopted the celebration. FIFA has even described it as one of the most famed celebrations in sport.
Thirteen years later, the meaning goes beyond a goal celebration. The jump, the turn, the landing and the unmistakable “SIUUUUU!” have become part of Cristiano Ronaldo’s identity.

One goal. One spontaneous reaction. One global phenomenon.
From Miami in 2013 to stadiums around the world today, the SIUUUU remains unmistakably Ronaldo.
