Arteta Reveals What Bruno Guimarães Brings to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has praised new Arsenal signing Bruno Guimarães, saying the Brazilian midfielder can bring a different energy and character to his team.

Guimarães completed his move from Newcastle United to Arsenal in a deal worth around £75 million, becoming one of the club's major additions ahead of the new season.

Arteta is already excited about what the 28-year-old can bring to the dressing room.

“I’m delighted to have him. We will see very clearly, especially the energy that he brings to the training ground,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager also highlighted Guimarães' personality and leadership qualities.

“I think he describes himself as a warrior. I think he’s a warrior with a tremendous quality as well and intuition and leadership and charisma that is going to help us, that is going to really ignite something different in the team.”

Arteta believes Guimarães' competitive nature could have an effect on the rest of the squad.

“I think he’s going to push everybody inside the team as well and that’s the type of player that we need.”

The Brazilian arrives after four seasons at Newcastle, where he became captain and helped the club win the 2025 Carabao Cup.

His arrival also gives Arsenal another elite midfield option alongside players such as Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

For Arteta, though, Guimarães offers more than technical ability.

The manager appears to value the midfielder's intensity, personality and willingness to compete as much as his quality on the ball.

That could become particularly important as Arsenal attempt to defend their Premier League title and compete for another Champions League trophy.

Guimarães has already said he wants to win trophies and make history at Arsenal.

Now Arteta wants him to bring that same hunger into the dressing room.
