Edu Aguirre Reveals Why Ronaldo Left Portugal
Edu Aguirre says Cristiano Ronaldo felt betrayed by Jorge Jesus after an alleged private apology was not followed by a public one.

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly felt betrayed by Jorge Jesus before deciding to leave Portugal's training camp, according to journalist Edu Aguirre.
Aguirre, a close friend of Ronaldo, revealed what he described as the Portuguese captain's side of the story on El Chiringuito.
According to Aguirre, the fallout began after Ronaldo spent around 30 minutes warming up during Portugal's Nations League win over Norway without eventually being brought onto the pitch.
Aguirre claims that Jesus later met with Ronaldo and Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença and privately apologised to the forward.
More importantly, Aguirre says Jesus promised Ronaldo that he would publicly acknowledge his mistake during his next press conference.
That public apology allegedly never came.
Instead, Jesus told reporters that Ronaldo was simply another player and stressed that the coach was the one responsible for making the team's decisions.
That, Aguirre claims, was the moment Ronaldo felt betrayed.
“If a coach comes to you privately and says, ‘I didn't manage things well, we're in this together, forgive me, I'll clarify everything in the press conference and everything will be fine’... and then 12 hours later he goes into the press conference and leaves Cristiano worse off, saying that he is the one in charge and Cristiano is just another player, then you go home. That's why I say it was a betrayal,” Aguirre said, according to reports of his appearance.
Jesus has independently admitted that he made a mistake by allowing Ronaldo to warm up against Norway despite knowing he would not bring him on.
However, the coach has disputed the wider interpretation of the situation.
Jesus said Ronaldo's decision not to play had been agreed because of his physical condition and insisted there had been no major confrontation between them.
Ronaldo subsequently left Portugal's camp after speaking with Proença and said he would reveal the full reasons for his decision “in due time”.
Aguirre's account therefore provides a possible explanation for Ronaldo's sudden departure, but the claims about the private meeting and promised apology remain Aguirre's version of events rather than independently confirmed details.
For now, the biggest question is whether Ronaldo's departure is temporary or marks the beginning of the end of his Portugal career.
