Everton Put Up for Sale by Friedkin Group
Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, are reportedly open to selling the club if the right buyer emerges, after initially seeking outside investment.

Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, are reportedly prepared to sell the Premier League club if the right buyer emerges, less than two years after taking control.
According to The Athletic, the American investment group had initially been searching for outside investors to inject fresh money into Everton. However, the group is now also open to a full sale, potentially bringing an end to its ownership after taking over in December 2024.
The Friedkins are not said to be desperate to leave. They are prepared to continue supporting Everton while waiting for an offer from buyers who can take the club forward.
The development comes after the owners helped stabilise Everton’s finances and completed the club’s move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which replaced Goodison Park as the club’s home.
However, the club’s spending and transfer decisions have faced criticism from supporters, particularly after Everton sold several players during the summer transfer window. Reports of the search for external investment first emerged in September, with the initial process focused on bringing in minority investors rather than selling control.
The Friedkin Group completed its takeover in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s turbulent ownership. The group also owns Italian club AS Roma and has since worked to reduce Everton’s financial burden while securing long-term financing for the new stadium.
For Everton supporters, the possibility of another ownership change raises fresh questions about the club’s long-term ambitions. A new buyer could bring additional investment, but any change in ownership would depend on finding a suitable purchaser and completing the necessary process.
For now, The Friedkin Group intends to maintain its support while considering its options.
Would Everton be better off with new owners willing to spend more, or should the Friedkin Group be given more time?
