Fabián Ruiz Makes His Ballon d'Or Case

Fabián Ruiz has made his case for the 2026 Ballon d'Or by pointing to one statistic he believes separates him from the other contenders: his trophy haul.

Speaking to Radioestadio Noche, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder highlighted his remarkable run of success with both club and country.

“I am the player who has won the most titles,” Ruiz said, adding that he believes he has collected seven trophies in recent years.

Ruiz's latest season has certainly strengthened his argument.

The Spain international helped PSG win Ligue 1 and the Champions League before playing a key role as Spain lifted the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He has therefore collected major domestic, European and international honours during the same period.

Ruiz has previously admitted that winning the Ballon d'Or is a dream, although he has stopped short of openly campaigning for the award.

“I'll try to finish as high as possible and, why not dream of winning it?” he told AS.

His argument is particularly notable because Ruiz is competing against several players whose cases are built heavily around individual statistics and attacking numbers.

The Spanish midfielder, however, believes midfielders and players in other positions should receive the same recognition as forwards when individual awards are decided.

With the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony scheduled for October 26, Ruiz now has a major collection of trophies behind his candidacy — and he clearly believes that record deserves serious consideration.
