Messi travelled to Rosario with his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their three children after the death of his father. The funeral was held privately in nearby Pérez, with close family and friends in attendance.

The family had previously asked for privacy after false reports about Jorge's health circulated during the 2026 World Cup. In June, the family released a statement asking the media to show responsibility and respect for their private situation.
