Manchester City are facing a fresh financial allegation after an investigation by tax expert Dan Neidle claimed the club may have failed to pay around £12 million in tax.

The allegation relates to historic payments connected to former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini and comes shortly after the publication of the independent commission’s findings into the Premier League’s long-running case against the club.

Neidle claims his analysis identified a potential tax liability arising from the way certain payments were structured. According to his assessment, the arrangements could have resulted in unpaid PAYE income tax and National Insurance.

The alleged £12m liability has not been confirmed by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), and it is not currently established publicly whether HMRC has opened a formal investigation into the matter.

The development comes at a particularly significant time for City, following the independent commission’s findings that the club breached Premier League financial rules across a number of seasons. Manchester City have rejected the findings and remain entitled to appeal the decision.

The tax allegation is separate from the Premier League proceedings and would require assessment by the relevant tax authorities before any liability could be formally established.

Neidle’s claims nevertheless add another financial issue to the wider scrutiny surrounding Manchester City’s historic financial arrangements.
