A mistake from Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer allowed Augsburg to score in seven-and-a-half seconds on Saturday, becoming the quickest goal in Bundesliga history.

Taking a pass straight from kick-off at the WWK Arena, Neuer, 40, dallied in possession before trying to chip the ball over the advancing Augsburg midfielder Robin Fellhauer.

Instead, Fellhauer, 28, charged down Neuer’s clearance, collected the loose ball and gave his team a 1-0 lead. After the game, which finished 2-2, the 28-year-old told Sky Germany that scoring the goals was “an indescribable feeling.”

The timing of the goal shaved half a second off the previous record, jointly held — at nine seconds — by Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland.

Bellarabi established the record in 2014, playing for Bayer Leverkusen against Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund, before Volland equalled it a year later, while playing for Hoffenheim against — coincidentally — Bayern.

After the game, which finished 2-2, Volland and Bellarabi each sent congratulatory messages to Fellhauer, which were played on Sky Deutschland during his post-match interview.

It means that two of the quickest goals in Bundesliga history have now been scored against Bayern, the record champions, who have won the competition on 34 occasions, more than any other club combined.

Bayern, two points off top spot, were looking to capitalise on league leaders Borussia Dortmund’s late collapse against Werder Bremen on Friday. Dortmund were 2-0 up in the 85th minute before two goals in four minutes from the away side saw Niko Kovac’s side have to settle for a draw.

Bayern would have gone top of the Bundesliga with a victory over Augsburg but, as it was, they remain in second place. Vincent Kompany’s side are next in action against Norwegian side Viking in the Champions League on Tuesday.
