Raheem Sterling Pleads Guilty To Dangerous Driving Charges After Lamborghini Crash

The former England winger appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court and admitted charges of dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

The offences relate to an incident on May 28, when Sterling was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the M3 near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire. Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

The court heard that Sterling had driven dangerously on the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road before the crash. Witnesses reported seeing the Lamborghini swerving between lanes, while dashcam footage presented in court showed the vehicle weaving across the motorway.

Prosecutors said Sterling was seen inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon while driving. Police later found him in the passenger seat of the crashed vehicle with nitrous oxide canisters in his possession.

Sterling told police that he had not slept the previous night. Prosecutors classified the dangerous-driving offence among the most serious categories, meaning the case could potentially result in a custodial sentence.

The 31-year-old has now been disqualified from driving and released on unconditional bail. A pre-sentence report will be prepared before his next hearing on November 25, when the court will determine the next stage of sentencing.

The legal case comes during an uncertain period in Sterling’s football career. He is currently without a club after his short spell with Feyenoord, having previously enjoyed successful periods with Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

At Manchester City, Sterling won four Premier League titles and established himself as one of England’s leading attacking players before his move to Chelsea in 2022.

His immediate focus, however, is now on the court process and the consequences of the offences to which he has pleaded guilty.
