Ronaldo’s Sister Shares Brutal Message After Portugal Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has shared a strongly worded message defending the Portugal captain after his dramatic departure from the national team camp.

Ronaldo confirmed on Wednesday that he had left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen following Jorge Jesus’ press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. He said he would reveal the reasons for his decision “in due time”.

The 41-year-old’s departure came after he was left on the bench throughout Portugal’s 2–1 Nations League victory over Norway.

Jesus had earlier denied that Ronaldo had refused to train and said there was no major issue between them. However, Ronaldo subsequently left the camp and wished Portugal and his teammates good luck.

Amid the growing controversy, Elma Aveiro took to Instagram and reposted a message from a Ronaldo supporter that fiercely criticised the treatment of her brother.

The message said Ronaldo “deserved more respect”, while claiming that the Portugal national team needed better structure and that Portuguese journalism needed “more competence and less speculation”.

It then turned its criticism towards the Portuguese public, claiming they were “envious, contemptuous and ignorant” and “deserved to return to the mediocrity” Portugal experienced in football before Ronaldo.

“Thank you for everything CR7!” the message concluded.

Elma added her own short response to the repost:

“Everything has been said.”

Her reaction has added another layer to the uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s international future.

Ronaldo has not officially announced his retirement from Portugal. His statement confirmed that he had left the current training camp and said he would eventually explain his reasons. Reuters reported that his future with the national team remains uncertain.

For now, Portugal must prepare for their Nations League meeting with Denmark without their record goalscorer and most-capped player, while Ronaldo’s next move remains unknown.
