The move marks another significant addition for the Dar es Salaam-based club, which has been one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer under head coach Florent Ibenge.

The 24-year-old defender joins the Ice Cream Makers after impressing with his consistent performances for Rivers United, where he established himself as one of the club’s most dependable defenders.

Azam officially unveiled Abdulrafiu as their latest acquisition as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season in a quest for silverware.

Abdulrafiu is well known for his pace, defensive solidity, and ability to contribute in attack from the left flank, and is expected to add quality and depth to Azam’s backline.

Standing at 1.90 metres, the Nigerian has built a reputation as a commanding presence in defence and arrives with valuable experience from the NPFL and continental competitions.

The move marks another step in Azam FC’s ambitious recruitment drive as the club aims to challenge for the Tanzanian Premier League title and make a strong impression in continental football.

For Rivers United, Abdulrafiu’s departure represents the loss of a key member of their defensive unit, while the player now embarks on a new chapter in East African football with the opportunity to further develop his career and compete for major honours.
