La Roja boast Ballon d'Or winner Rodri and the likes of Pedri, Martín Zubimendi, Dani Olmo, Gavi, Alex Baena and Mikel Merino, forms one of the most formidable midfields in the competition, and head coach Luis de la Fuente has come open to lay claim on that.

The reigning European Champions had gone on to be held in a goalless draw by World Cup debutant, Cape Verde. But responded in her second game by putting 4 past Saudi Arabia without reply.

World Cup holders, Argentina has the services of Enzo Fernandez and Rodrigo De Paul leading their midfield. The side had marked off their campaign with a 3:0 dismantling of African side Algeria, and would face Austria for the second game in Arlington.

The Club World Cup winner speaking through La Albiceleste Talk,  had this to say in reaction to the Spanish boss’ claims

"Luis de la Fuente saying Spain have best midfield in the world by far? First of all, before I start, Happy Father’s Day to everyone. And now, to answer your question, honestly, those are just opinions. I’m not going to get into any controversy or anything like that.

"Spain have one of the best midfields in the world because they have great players. But in the end, they’re just opinions. As for who’s better and who’s worse, I think that gets decided on the pitch."

Argentina are looking to take after Brazil (1962) and Italy (1938) as the only teams to have successfully defended the World Cup title. And have marked the campaign off on fine notes. A win over Austria would secure La Albiceleste a place at the knockouts.
