France made a winning start to their 2026 World Cup campaign with a professional 3-1 victory over Senegal, but the match was about much more than the final score.

Once again, Kylian Mbappe showed why many consider him the face of world football.

Although initially missing a few chances, the French captain came through with two stunning goals for the win. His pace, movement and confidence kept causing problems for Senegal throughout the matma.ce.

However, Mbappe was not the only player who caught the eye.

Michael Olise continued his rapid rise on the international stage with another impressive performance. The young attacker looked comfortable under pressure, and created endless scoring opportunities.

Olise is a prodigy, and a player to watch in this tournament

France's opening goal came through Mbappe after excellent pass from Michael Olise, giving Didier Deschamps' side the lead. The second goal arrived later in the match as Bradley Barcola scored after being subbed in.

Important to note that France worked as a team, with Balon D'or winner Ousmane Dembele and Desiri Doue contributing greatly to the win

Senegal missed several clear chances that might have changed the entire game. Against a team as strong as France, those missed opportunities proved costly.

Although Senegal competed well, created chances and caused problems for the French defence, World Cup football is often decided by small moments, and Senegal failed to take theirs while France were clinical when opportunities arrived.

If the African champions can be more clinical in front of goal in their next matches, they still have every chance of reaching the knockout rounds. The performance was encouraging. The result was not.

For France, it was the perfect start.

For Senegal, redemption is now the only focus.
