Robin Le Normand Called Up by Spain to Replace Eric García

Spain have called up Atlético Madrid defender Robin Le Normand to replace Eric García in the squad for the UEFA Nations League.

García has been released from the national team camp after experiencing discomfort in his left knee. The Barcelona defender felt the problem during the warm-up before Spain’s 3–2 victory over England at Wembley on Saturday. Following medical tests, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided to withdraw him from the squad as a precaution.

Le Normand will now join Luis de la Fuente’s squad ahead of Spain’s upcoming Nations League fixtures. The defender returns to the national team after missing out on the 2026 World Cup squad.

The Atlético centre-back was part of Spain’s squad that won Euro 2024 and has made 27 appearances for La Roja, scoring once. His last international call-up before this one came in October 2025.

Spain began their Nations League campaign with a 3–2 comeback win against England and will next face Croatia in Seville on Tuesday, September 29. They will then play Czechia before travelling to Croatia for another meeting with Zlatko Dalić’s side.

García will return to Barcelona to continue his recovery, with the RFEF stating that the decision was made to avoid any further risk to the defender.
