Germany kick off their FIFA World Cup 2026 journey on Sunday with a clash against tournament debutants Curaçao in Houston, Texas. The four-time world champions will be aiming to make a strong statement as they seek their first knockout-stage appearance since lifting the trophy in 2014.

Julian Nagelsmann's side arrives in excellent form, having won all four of their warm-up matches this year. Confidence is high within the German camp, with stars such as Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Leroy Sané expected to lead the attacking charge behind striker Kai Havertz.

Germany have been boosted by the return of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has recovered from a minor calf problem. However, young prospect Lennart Karl misses out after suffering a muscle injury, with Assan Ouédraogo called up as his replacement. Nagelsmann is also expected to hand opportunities to several younger players, including Felix Nmecha, Aleksandar Pavlović and Nathaniel Brown.

For Curaçao, this marks a historic moment as they make their first-ever World Cup appearance. Head coach Dick Advocaat has a fully fit squad available, with experienced forward Jürgen Locadia and winger Tahith Chong expected to play key roles.

The Caribbean nation enters the tournament on the back of mixed results but gained momentum with an impressive 4-0 victory over Aruba in their final preparation match. Midfield leaders Leandro and Juninho Bacuna will be tasked with helping Curaçao compete against one of football's traditional powerhouses.

While Germany are overwhelming favourites, Curaçao will be eager to make history and test themselves on the biggest stage of all
