AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has praised Chelsea defender Reece James following the Blues’ impressive UEFA Champions League victory over the Italian side at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea produced one of their strongest performances of the season as they secured a convincing 3-0 win over the Serie A champions. While several Chelsea players stood out, it was James who stole much of the spotlight with a dominant display on both ends of the pitch.

The England international not only helped keep Leao quiet throughout the contest but also contributed directly in attack, providing an assist before getting his name on the scoresheet.

Leao, who has often been linked with a move to the Premier League, admitted after the game that James was one of the most difficult opponents he had ever come up against.

Speaking after the encounter, the Portuguese winger acknowledged the Chelsea defender’s impact throughout the match.

“James is a very good player. He was everywhere on the pitch and made things difficult for me. His timing, positioning and ability to get forward were impressive,” Leao said.

The AC Milan attacker added that he rarely singles out opposing players for praise but felt James deserved special recognition after his performance.

The 22-year-old defender was a constant threat for Chelsea and played a crucial role in helping Graham Potter’s side secure all three points in the Champions League clash.

Leao also stressed that AC Milan must quickly move on from the defeat and focus on their remaining fixtures as they continue their European campaign.

Chelsea’s victory boosted their hopes of progressing from the group, while James once again demonstrated why many consider him one of the most complete defenders in world football.

His performance against Milan was another reminder of his growing importance for both club and country.
