Mbappé 2026 World Cup Dream Ends Against Spain

Kylian Mbappé will not win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

France were knocked out after losing 2-0 to Spain in the semi-final. Spain were the better team and deserved their place in the final.

It is a painful end for Mbappé, but it should not hide the fantastic tournament he's had.

The France captain led by example throughout the World Cup. He scored important goals, created chances for his teammates and carried France's attack in difficult moments. His pace, finishing and movement caused problems for almost every defence he faced.

Mbappé also showed why he is one of football's biggest leaders. Even when France struggled, he kept demanding the ball and tried to inspire his teammates until the final whistle.

His World Cup career is already one of the best of this generation.

He won the World Cup in 2018, finished as runner-up in 2022 after scoring a hat-trick in the final, and reached another semi-final in 2026. Very few players have achieved so much before the age of 28.

This season has also been incredible for him.

Mbappé has played 58 matches for club and country, scoring 56 goals and providing 12 assists. That is 68 goal contributions in 58 games.

France may be out of the race for the trophy, but Mbappé's tournament is not over yet.

He will now lead France in the third-place match on July 18, where they will face the loser of the other semi-final between England and Argentina.

Winning the World Cup is no longer possible, but Mbappé still has one more chance to help France finish the tournament with a medal.
