Chelsea is believed to value the 22-year-old Brazilian at around £50 million, and United have identified him as a leading target after missing out on other midfield options.

After missing out on Elliot Anderson to Manchester City and Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur, United are forced to look elsewhere as they seek to rebuild their midfield under Michael Carrick ahead of the coming season.

While Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is on United’ target list, the club has had close look into the situation of Andrey Santos, whom at the time is behind Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez on the pecking order in Chelsea’ midfield hierarchy.

Santos is reportedly open to a move in search of more regular first-team football. Manchester United will face stiff competition from Newcastle United who also are interested in the Brazilian, as they seek to replace Sandro Tonali, whom recently switched sides to Tottenham.

United are back to the Champions League this season and have identified midfield as the area that needs the most investment, as the club seek to return to her old days of glory.

An agreement is in place to sign Éderson from Atalanta for £35m, but the player’s late World Cup call-up has had things on a halt at the time.

Manchester United would have Casemiro depart to Inter Miami, and Manuel Ugarte picked up a long term injury at the World Cup, leaving a huge vacuum in the heart of United’ midfield.

Carlo Ancelotti didn’t call up Andrey Santos to his Brazilian squad defending the nation in USA at the World Cup. The 22 year old signed for Chelsea in 2023 from Vasco da Gama for 18m. He went on loan spells to Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg.

Chelsea are looking  to reunite experienced Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, who previously worked with Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, but have thus far been rebuffed by the Black Cats.
