Sergio Ramos Hails Pau Cubarsí After France Masterclass: “Spain Have Their Leader for the Next Decade”
Sergio Ramos believes Pau Cubarsí has everything needed to become Spain's defensive leader after the teenager produced another composed and commanding display against France in the World Cup semi-final.

Pau Cubarsí's commanding display in Spain's World Cup semi-final victory over France has earned glowing praise from one of the greatest defenders of the modern era, Sergio Ramos.
The former Real Madrid and Spain captain was full of admiration for the 19-year-old Barcelona centre-back, describing his performance as far beyond what would normally be expected from a player of his age.
"What a defender!" Ramos said. "His defensive ability is top class, and for someone his age it's simply incredible. I wasn't this good at his age, not even close."
Ramos highlighted Cubarsí's maturity and composure throughout the match, particularly against France's dangerous attacking line led by Kylian Mbappé. According to the legendary defender, the teenager never looked overwhelmed and consistently made intelligent decisions under pressure.
"He matched up against some of the best attackers in the world and looked completely unfazed. That's what impressed me most," Ramos added.
The Spanish icon also explained that elite defending goes far beyond making tackles, praising Cubarsí's positioning, anticipation and reading of the game.
"People talk about defending as if it's only about tackles. No. It's about positioning, anticipation and knowing where danger is before it happens. He showed all of that tonight."
Ramos concluded with perhaps the biggest compliment of all, suggesting Spain may have found the cornerstone of their defence for years to come.
"The scary thing is that he's still improving. If he continues on this path, Spain might have their defensive leader for the next decade."
Cubarsí's performances throughout the tournament continue to strengthen his growing reputation as one of world football's brightest young defenders, with Ramos' endorsement adding even greater weight to his remarkable rise.
