South American Teams Still Waiting for First Win at 2026 FIFA World Cup
South America's representatives have endured a difficult start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay and Paraguay all failing to secure victories in their opening matches.

South America's representatives are yet to record a victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking an unexpected start for one of football's most successful continents.
The winless run began when Paraguay suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to the United States in Group D. Brazil followed with a 1-1 draw against Morocco in Group C, while Ecuador fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Ivory Coast in Group E. Most recently, Uruguay were held to a 1-1 draw by Saudi Arabia in Group H.
As a result, all four South American nations that have played so far have either drawn or lost their opening fixtures, leaving CONMEBOL still searching for its first victory of the tournament.
There is, however, hope on the horizon. Reigning world champions Argentina are yet to begin their campaign and will face Algeria in their opening Group J fixture. Meanwhile, Colombia are also still awaiting their first match, with Uzbekistan set to be their opening opponents in Group K.
Given South America's rich World Cup history and the pedigree of teams such as Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, many expect the continent's fortunes to improve as the tournament progresses.
For now, though, South America remains without a win at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a statistic few would have predicted before the competition got underway.
