More than 200 of FIFA’s 211 member associations have reportedly endorsed the 56-year-old Swiss-Italian administrator, placing him in an advantage position to continue leading world football for another four years.

With no official challenger emerging, Infantino is widely expected to retain the presidency when delegates vote at the FIFA Congress come 2027.

Infantino first assumed office in February 2016 following the resignation of Sepp Blatter. Since then, he has overseen significant changes to FIFA’s competitions, including the expansion of the men’s World Cup to from 36 to 48 teams beginning with the 2026 edition and the introduction of an expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

His tenure has also seen record commercial growth, with FIFA reporting unprecedented revenues through broadcasting, sponsorship and tournament expansion.

There has been an immense increase in  investment in football development programmes worldwide, particularly across Africa, Asia and other emerging football markets.

Despite the massive achievements, Infantino’s presidency has not been without controversy. FIFA has faced criticism over governance issues, scheduling decisions, player welfare and the handling of several high-profile disputes.

Nevertheless, the broad support from member associations reflects continued confidence in his leadership and strategic vision for the sport, except for Germany being the only notable name tey to identify with the current FIFA man for a re-run.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and South American governing body CONMEBOL are among the confederations that have publicly backed Infantino’s bid, reinforcing his strong global support base.

Unless a late challenger enters the race, the FIFA president is expected to be comfortably re-elected, extending his leadership until 2031 and continuing one of the most transformative eras in the organisation’s modern history.
