Super Falcons Rewarded By NFF, Government Package Still Pending

The Super Falcons, who extended their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team by clinching a 10th WAFCON title, have now received the rewards promised by the football federation.

The payments include the players’ agreed share of the prize money won from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), as well as outstanding match bonuses, camp allowances and payments due to the coaching crew and backroom staff.

According to the NFF, the federation has disbursed 30 per cent of the $1 million prize money awarded by CAF to the tournament winners, in line with the agreement reached before the competition.

Officials also confirmed that all financial obligations under the federation’s remit have now been settled, as the Super Falcons prepare to defend her title in the next coming WAFCON tournament.

The move has been welcomed as a positive step towards improving trust between the federation and the players, particularly given the history of disputes over unpaid bonuses and allowances that have occasionally overshadowed Nigeria’s success in international tournaments.

While the NFF has completed its payments, attention has now shifted to the Federal Government’s reward package announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in honour of the team’s achievement.

Following the Falcons’ return to Nigeria, President Tinubu hosted the players and officials at the Presidential Villa, where he conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each member of the squad.

The President also announced a cash reward equivalent to $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical crew, and the allocation of three-bedroom apartments under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.

Although the national honours have already been conferred, the monetary rewards and housing allocations are still being processed through the relevant government agencies. Officials have assured the public that the promised incentives will be delivered.

The Super Falcons’ latest WAFCON success once again highlighted Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football. Despite facing strong competition throughout the tournament, the team displayed resilience, tactical discipline and championship character to reclaim the continental crown, further cementing its legacy as Africa’s most decorated women’s national side.

The prompt payment of federation-related bonuses has been viewed as an encouraging sign for Nigerian football administration. It also reinforces the importance of rewarding excellence, especially for athletes who continue to elevate the country’s reputation on the global stage.

As the Super Falcons prepare for future international assignments, including qualification campaigns and global competitions, the expectation remains that all remaining government promises will be fulfilled promptly, ensuring the champions receive the full recognition they have earned for another historic achievement.
