The Ukraine international was provisionally suspended in December 2024 after returning an adverse analytical finding for meldonium, a substance prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.

The initial ruling resulted in a lengthy ban, dealing a significant blow to both the player and Chelsea, who had invested heavily in the talented winger following his move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.

Throughout the disciplinary process, Mudryk consistently maintained that he had never knowingly taken a banned substance. His legal team challenged the findings, arguing that there was no intention to enhance performance and raising questions about the interpretation of the test results.

Following months of appeals and expert reviews, the case has now been resolved, with Mudryk cleared to return to competitive football immediately, the player is set to join the rest of his teammates on Sunday for the preseason tour.

The decision came after changes to WADA’s technical assessment of meldonium levels and a settlement that recognised the period already served as sufficient. As a result, the 25-year-old is once again eligible for domestic and international competition.

In a statement released after the verdict, Mudryk expressed relief at bringing one of the most difficult chapters of his career to an end. He thanked his family, legal representatives, Chelsea and supporters for standing by him throughout the process, while reiterating that he never intentionally violated anti-doping regulations.

Chelsea also welcomed the outcome, reaffirming their support for the player and stating that they look forward to reintegrating him into the first-team squad. Club officials are expected to work closely with the coaching staff to ensure the winger regains full match fitness after such a lengthy absence from competitive action.

Mudryk’s return represents a significant boost for Chelsea as they prepare for the new season. Known for his explosive pace, direct dribbling and ability to stretch opposition defences, the Ukrainian offers another attacking option for the Blues.

After nearly two years away from the game, Mudryk now has the opportunity to rebuild his career, repay the faith shown in him by Chelsea and once again establish himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.
