Bendel Insurance Sign Jonathan Mairiga From Wikki Tourists

Bendel Insurance have completed the signing of Jonathan Mairiga from Wikki Tourists ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Benin Arsenals announced the midfielder as their latest signing as they continue to strengthen their squad for the new campaign.

Mairiga arrives after enjoying one of the best individual seasons in the NPFL.

The 24-year-old finished the 2025/26 campaign as the league's Golden Boot winner with 14 goals. Even more impressive, every one of his goals came from open play despite playing as a midfielder rather than a striker. He also contributed four assists for Wikki Tourists.

His performances attracted interest from several NPFL clubs, including Rivers United, Shooting Stars and Barau FC. Bendel Insurance have now won the race for one of the most sought-after players in the Nigerian league.

Mairiga's move gives coach Kennedy Boboye another attacking option from midfield. His eye for goal could add something different to a Bendel Insurance side looking to challenge higher up the table this season.

For Wikki Tourists, it is the end of a memorable chapter. Although the club suffered relegation last season, Mairiga's outstanding campaign made him one of the biggest stories in the NPFL and earned him a move to one of the league's established clubs.
